The inspiration for EverDesk came from an old school desk, but with a twist. The designers observed how a vintage school desk became a centerpiece for children, providing a "room within a room." They noticed how the elevated perspective of the desk engaged the children and decided to incorporate this feature into their design. The result is a desk that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and adjustable to accommodate growing children.
EverDesk stands out for its unique properties. It is designed higher than a typical desk to provide eye-level contact with adults, making it easier for parents or teachers to interact with the child. The desk is also adjustable, with multiple heights, desktop, and foot support settings. Furthermore, the tabletop is reversible to cater to both left-handed and right-handed children and can be set horizontally or at an angle depending on the activity.
The designers used a combination of modern technology and traditional craftsmanship to realize EverDesk. The desk is computer designed for precision and handcrafted by traditional craftsmen using environmentally sustainable oak. The use of solid wood pieces and plywood provides uniform strength and pliability, creating stylish, slim, and elegant lines. The desk is finished with a high-quality, child-safe, stain, and scratch-resistant lacquer to increase durability.
EverDesk is a truly European product, conceived in Vienna by Hungarian interior designer Eszter Papp and developed in collaboration with Dutch designers Marc Th. van der Voorn and Koen Koevoets. The product is manufactured in Hungary and was released at the end of 2020. The design process involved extensive research on traditional desks, ergonomics, and finishing techniques to ensure durability and functionality.
In conclusion, EverDesk is a testament to the power of design in transforming everyday objects into functional and aesthetic pieces. It is a modern, stylish upgrade of the school desk archetype that blends seamlessly with any interior design style. It is not just a piece of furniture, but a space that inspires creativity and learning in children. With its unique features and innovative design, EverDesk is set to become a new standard in children's furniture.
